Land Of Lethargy Poem by Cindy Thacher

Land Of Lethargy

Loneliness, hope or despair,
is life allowed to be fair?
I look at you, and you at me,
and what do each of us see?

A look in my eyes will reveal,
I've lived a life forlorn, so surreal.
I wouldn't ask you to trade with me,
It's been a life of lethargy.

At times, with audacity, you say,
'Your lucky because you can stay
home without a job or career, '
I'll tell you about lethargy, withhold my tears.

I pop pills morning, noon, and night,
because my doctors tell me it is right.
Some for my brain disorder, deep,
and more pills at night so I can sleep.

Do you look at my outward shell
and forget I'm living in hell?
There were days I'd truly dread
because of the storms in my head.

No one asked if I chose this life,
I'd choose career over mind-boggling strife.
Now, let's purge the truth on you,
and ask, 'What would you do? '

Every day you're behind the wheel,
if that were taken, how would you feel?
Would you rise from bed with humility,
and go to your job with dignity?

All because your brain misfired,
And left your body beguiled.
What would you do, may I ask?
When you convulse, there is no mask!

While in the 'Land of Lethargy'
hopefully, you're willing to see,
unforeseeable mishaps I go through,
this is truth, easily misconstrued.
