The Man Named Addiction Poem by charles vanwinkle

The Man Named Addiction

He wants me to be fearfull, alone, and afraid
Whipped like a child and told to behave
He wants to control my every move
Like strings on a puppet depressing my mood
I reach for the truth but hes feeding me lies
Hes leading me blind and ignoring my cries
He tempts me with drugs and he tempts me with booze
Then he leaves me feeling helpless, alone, and confused
I say I quit, He says no you dont
I feel like im cornered at the end of my rope
Scars upon scars from years as a slave
Im doing his work, while digging my grave
I cannot give up, and i refuse to give in
I'll stand my trial, for everyone of my sins
You've beaten me down but im not broken yet
This choice that you've made I wont let you forget
Now im winning the battles brought forth from the war
A before the end of my time i will settle the score
