The Long Lavender Look Poem by KAVITA SINGH

The Long Lavender Look

Rating: 4.4

Kya tumne dekha hai, uski aankhon me,
Vidai ke samay ki us mehakti najar ki chahat ko?
Aur kya tumne suna hai
gile paiyom ko dhire se aawaz mein
baarish se gile sadkon se alwida kehte huwe?

Kya tumne kabhi yaad kiya
dhalti hui roshni me uski tvacha ki nazdikhiyon ko?
Ya fir tum bas ek kshanik visheshagya the
Ya tum ho gaye the unmukt
Uske pyar ki komalta se,
aur girte ho nirbadh….

Kya kabhi nistabdh kar di thee usne
Un dinon aur raaton me
Tumhare sabhi simaon me, galiyaron me, chabutare ke piche?

Tumne dekha nahi kya
Pyaar ke us pal ka mehak uski aankho me
Jab tumne usse akhir me aazad kar diya tha
Tumhare ishq ka bandhan se?

Kya tum sach me jante nahi the ki
Tumhare vilap ko kafi der ho chuki hai
Kyuki woh pahle se hi apni rakh se udit hui thi?

Bewakuf insan

Tumne kaise nahi dekha uski aankhon me
Vidai ke samay ki us mehakti najar ki chahat ko?

Col. Sahab, I had read read the original by Susan and introduced it to Kavita. Both of us loved it. And, on my request, Kavita has done this beautiful translation. But, at no stage had I thought that this lovely poem could qualify as a ghazal. I am thrilled. I am not a singer. but love dearly, ghazals rendered by Gulam Ali Sahab, Jagjit Singh& Chitra Singh etc. Even Greatest ever Rafi Sahab! It would be matter of great joy for all of us-Susan, Kavita, me etc..) if someone could give voice to this poem (or may I say Ghazal) and post on PH. Could you help Sir? ? Thank You! ! -unnikrishnan

@KAVITA SINGH, Not that I know Hindi too well, but I loved reading this translation of Susan Williams' wonderful poem. To my understanding, the translation has done justice to the original. I read Susan Williams' original poem too and left a comment there.
