The Lake Poem by Bram Griffioen

The Lake

To a valley far away,
I would like to go.
The ground covered with soft grass,
flowers poppin up here and there.
In the middle there's a lake,
this blue, this clear you've never seen.
Yet no bed can be discovered.
The water to the center turns dark,
the look can make you drift away.
To higher places that's where you go,
Where i want to go,
where everything is good.

I like to sit just on the side of the lake,
to look into her depts.
Trying to reveal her secrets,
but if she has, well hidden they are.
The sun reflects in the water,
it is like everything turns brighter.
I love this place but it scares me just as much.
I'm afraid of the blue water,
what lies beneath; rejection, suffering and loss or joy, love and tenderness?

I take a step, shiver,
fear is running,
another and another.
Stumble, the water's coming,
silence and darkness
