The Horse And The Dog Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

The Horse And The Dog

The horse and the dog

Then
-I was a child
-a student to be
-not yet a student

The textbooks were different
-brushing the teeth
-washing the hands and the face with soap
-and using the towel
-were of less importance
-than following human-order
-and learn from experiences of others…

Then
- "Dad brought bread, "
-and
- "Dara gave water, "
-were said differently…

Then
-the textbooks told us of
- "A man on his horse
-heading for a trip…
-with his gun and a bag
-attached to the saddle…"
-the book said:
- "The dog came along…
-barked and barked
-in front of the horse…"

"The man got angry…"
-the book:
- "…he shot the dog…"
-then
-the man reaches his destination
- "The papers were missing,
-he returned…found them…
-near the corpse…of the dog"

They taught us…
-to care, love, pay attention, be wise
Then
-they told us of the man
-in the line
-in the post office
- "After hours of hard work,
-the tired clerk was frowning…"
-a client, a man gets to the counter
- "He lifted a piece of falling paper,
-handed it to the clerk with smile
-greeted him with respect…"
-the teller changes
-becomes kind and helpful…to all.

They taught us social behaviour
-not putting our noses into
-cellphones and texting…isolated! ! !

And the books talked of
-accident and the wounded and bleeding
-and the shortage of water
- "Please serve him first…
-his wounds are more severe than mine…"
-all the wounded repeated the same…
-they taught us generosity
-kindness and humanity
-not dusting of the responsibility as if
-others stink …
-are worthless…deserve disgrace…

I miss those years
I miss those classes
I miss those books
And those trainings

I do not like this
I do not like loneliness
I do not like greed
I do not like the enforced need
I do not like the modern slavery
I do not like the stupidity as civilization
I do not like imprisonment in the cubes
-condos…apartments…basements…houses
-without sharing kindness and love.
