The Holocaust Poem by Elsie Skelton

The Holocaust

Hatred.
What did we ever do to you?
Living in fear,
Hearing the rumours of the dead.

Trapped.
There’s no way out now,
I wonder what will happen next?
I know it’s nothing good.

Taken.
Separated from the ones I love.
I wonder what happened to my sister?
Actually, I’d rather not think about it…

Perfection.
Is a perfect race really full of people
Who are prepared to do this?
Why hate us for who we are?

Weak.
Powerless.
There’s nothing we can do now.
We’ve been punished for nothing.

Death.
