The Glimpse Poem by Dean Meredith

The Glimpse

In my universe, I can always see you, and when the birds gently tap on the window, I imagine it's you, throwing pebbles to get my attention, and when my phone rings, I hope it's you, with some funny quirky message that makes my heart smile, when I think of how lovely and natural and gorgeous you are, my eyes are like dams, full and overflowing, strong and yet yielding, gently cradling each precious tear, and quietly hoping that none will ever leave, but knowing that true love only knows freedom, and that even the freest of free eventually come back to where they belong, where they know they're safe and complete, where that big old dam will always take care of and protect them, for he knows how vulnerable the soft and pure can be, and that nature can seem cruel to those who don't understand, but can also give to those with the courage to let go, the most amazing of wonders, like rainbows on cloudy days, and summer rain, and winter sun, and magical invisible moments, where words don't need to be spoken, and a certain look or a simple touch can say everything, it's a different and dreamy place, where things don't always make sense, where fantasies become real, and possibilities are infinite.

And on any perfect day, you are with me, and I am with you, and there is that comfort of feeling you beside me, and that reassurance that everyday will be ours, and we need nothing but each other, and we are naked and free to completely be ourselves, where life is simple and sweet, and my reason for being is to love you, and make you as happy as possible, just knowing that you are contented is more than enough, not wanting to possess any part of you, just hoping so much to be with you, to hold and touch and kiss, those soft-soft lips, eyes closed and hearts open, to me you are so perfect, watch as I'm offered the world and I smile and say thanks but all I really need is time with you, every second precious, every word special, every touch so tender and true, and night and day are lovers, and the attraction of sun and moon so strong that even though they have so little time together, and miss each other, that even after so long, they still dance that same dance, again and again, like an old married couple, so comfortable with each other that even when they're apart they're together.

My cosmos is a funny, strange one, inhabited by dreamers, who look at life differently, it's a romantic kingdom, where brave knights save fair maidens, and animals speak, and the sun is my father and the ocean my mother, and the wind my friend, and the rain tears of joy or sorrow, and people walk carefully through microcosms, where there is only truth, and power means nothing, where the ultimate sin is making another feel small, telepathy is preferred, nothing's impossible, everything has meaning, but it's alright not to know, and simplicity and quiet are revered, and the ultimate is love, people are as kind and gentle and honest as they know how to be, it is a utopia, and it is very real to those who believe, it is our home, our security, it fulfils all needs, when we're lucky or deserving, and love finds it's way into our souls, Déjà vu is a memory, feelings are valued above facts, and all my world needs to complete it is you, for although I love the truth, I sometimes lead myself astray, and because I'm imperfect and lacking and nothing much without you, I finally realise that it's not my world but ours, what can I offer a girl who seems to have everything, other than the one thing she might really need, and could that possibly be me?
