The Glasheen Rill Poem by Francis Duggan

The Glasheen Rill

Through Inchaleigh to the Finnow it's tongue is never still
It babbles on forever the little Glasheen rill
By the Inchaleigh-Claraghatlea border it flows on night and day
To join the bigger river for the ocean far away,
It babbles through the old fields and by many a hedgerow
As onwards to the Finnow forever it does flow
with my school friends of the fifties we fished for eels there long ago
I often think about them old friends i used to know,
The old rill known as the Glasheen has inspired the bards to rhyme
It was an ancient waterway when Fionn was in his prime
From the high ground through the old fields it keeps on babbling on
And none can say about it that it's better days are gone
And by the Claraghatlea-Inchaleigh border it will flow forever more
To the Finnow to the Blackwater and onwards to the ocean shore.
