The Girl From The Left Poem by Yewande Adedokun

The Girl From The Left

Rating: 5.0

She cried a whole day after her birth
The world must have made her weary
Infant as she is, she knows the energy the world carries is not right
Poor baby opens her eyes to the claws of life
Wanting to go back to the in-betweens
Anywhere but here

Her wail was a plea to God
But He already knows wail she must
Circumstance of being is fierce
Curses in the air like rain
A daily remembrance of her empty blood
An unfair preference of her peers over her

Her taste of love is gotten from Juliana
Juliana is from the third house before her
Taste of life is over in five years
Life is dark again for the girl from the left
Pure love is gone forever

Dear mother's love is too meek to fight her battles
Dear father have no tools for war
She took life into her hands. She is the rebel you know as a teenager
Negativity of life robs her of clarity
Her walls longer, thicker and taller than that of china
Anger takes over her like a disease
Self-sympathy takes her strength
God comes through with miracles, signs once in a while
But the heaviness of heart lingers till today
It grows with her in wisdom, it grows with her like an undeniable root
Like a running stream, it may never run dry

Her soul rejoices when curses faded with the aged
But she knows not the new world it reveals. Her soul misses the past
Soon life is seen as it is, a little clarity, more love to forgive wrongs wielded by blood
Tests waters with love for men
And follows one all the way not knowing where it leads
A desire to back that new course, but something seems intriguing on this mission
Something she can weld someday to tell someone how that path is
So far, the girl from the left continues towards left.
