The Fox And The Magpie Poem by David Harris

The Fox And The Magpie

Just as the first glimmer
of dawn touched the sky
I saw an amazing sight
of a hunter and prey
playing together in the street.

Both had been on a scavenger hunt
to keep their bellies fed.
Now that was over
as dawn awakened the day.

It gave both of them
a little time to play
a form of catch me
if you can,
the Fox and the Magpie.

As I watched both of them play
I wondered why we all
couldn’t be the same as them.
Then the Fox saw me watching them.
They stopped their play
and vanished in different ways.
