The Field Poem by louis rams

The Field

Rating: 4.0

I looked across a field of green, not a soul could be seen
Further ahead there was a tree line of Hibiscus, palms
And of pines.
I walked across that field on this beautiful sunlit day
And it washed " all my troubles away ".
Yet I felt this field was full of pain
Full of heartache, sorrow and shame.
I felt there were stories of generations gone by
Of how people lived and how people died.
I could envision settlers with homes all around
As fires spread and burned them to the ground.
Yetwith all their sufferings there was joy too
As they rebuilt and made it new.
Overcome by these feelings I said a prayer
That others would see what once was there.

A touching poem of perception of past events. Even an empty field has a story to tell. Very well-written poem, Louis! : -)
