The Fall Poem by Anirudh Singh

The Fall

Rating: 5.0

Dread always, the forsaken just,
Ware always their blackened heart,
ware him, he who walks this road.
And follows it down it's final path.

I walk alone, the road of shades,
And yet if I cast a glance
I see my shadows walk their ways
Alongside this road of mine,
In a twilight, where no stars shine.

The path that mimics the straight road,
The path that curves forver down.
Into a crushing embrace, it's final hold,
Lessons learned in oblivion's grace.
Not a way for the brave, Or the bold.

Early steps I cannot recall,
Only this road eternal,
And the mist that shrouds us all.
Me, the road, and the shadows.
And all those who heed the call.

The truth emerges, in the dying light.
A worm, it snakes it's way through,
finally staring you in the face. And you realize.
I am faded. I am gone.
Eyes widen, a silent scream, and you try to flee.

But the spiral turns downward.
Ever downward.
Only downward.
There is no way back.
There never was.

Now twist and turn, as I did.
Howl, and cry tears of fate.
And fight the chains that hold you down,
Hear the whiplash, and feel it tear your skin.
Whence Destiny chooses to put you to ground.

And lo, now you tire.
And wish to walk the walk no more,
Yet your feet will move,
And your eyes still shimmer,
The Thirst that burns your throat,
The smoke that lifts the veil,
Just about the corner,
You seek it.
Just about the corner,
You quest it.
Just about the corner,
You will find it.
As I did.

And we will walk together, this last turn,
Of the black spiral.
And reach our journey's end.
While far away and up above life still thrives,
Yet here is our lay, my Shadows and I.
Beneath, what we once were.
Lesser, broken...and faded imprints,
Of what was once living, breathing flame.
Tired legs carry us no more,
And so we fall...with hollow eyes ever gazing upward,
Looking for the wings that made us whole.
