The Drift Poem by Shaquay Spencer

The Drift

We seemed to move apart
Distance and time became our enemy
Instead of a well respected friend
Sometimes it makes me question was anything we had was ever true
We let it end something great
Or maybe we weren't suppose to be in the next phase in each other's lives
Maybe I am having trouble letting go
Something so beautiful I wanted to hold onto
Felt like this drift was sudden rather than subtle
Or maybe fog was in my glasses and they now became clear
Maybe we were both leaves in each other's lives
When it was time we both fell from each other's tree
We both drifted along our merry little way
Each of us not looking back
It seems you did not pause; you still move forward
Maybe you were quick to discover truth quicker than I
And come to acknowledge the phrase,
'People come and go as the seasons change, but I remain the same.'
