The Cross Poem by Will Fiala

The Cross

The Cross

He is born... son of light
Born in Bethlehem this day
Savior of the world to shepherd us all
Messiah of prophets out the past

Knowing truth and what it is
While he is but a small boy
Though his time is yet to come

Having heard
Having yearned
Lessons learning 'bout the cross

Near the Jordan he is baptized
As is witnessed by cousin John
Heaven opening and the spirit of God
Descending from heaven like a dove

Spirit leads him through the wilderness
Fasting forty days and nights
Coming temptings of the lucifer

Having heard
Having yearned
Lessons learning 'bout the cross

Today's the day, it's in his hands
Tomorrow just never knows
Now's the time, it's all we have
Today is the only day of all

Gathers to him his apostles
Teaching them about the truth
Bringing good news to their ears from God
Readying them for the coming days

Heals the sick the lame the lepers
Teaching people of the way
Raising Lazarus from the dead

Having heard
Having yearned
Lessons learning ‘bout the cross

Puppet priests from Roman choosing
Seek his death to keep their life
Selfish interests close their eyes to God
Worshiping their rituals of their past

Judas knows he will betray him
Jesus knows he is the one
Saying 'What you do, do quickly'

Having heard
Having yearned
Lessons learning 'bout the cross

Today's the day, it's in his hands
Tomorrow just never knows
Now's the time, it's all we have
This moment is the only time of all

Puppet trial before the Romans
Nailed him to that wooden beam
On the first day he is raised from the dead
Sending Mary off to tell the others

Shows himself to his disciples
Shows them both his hands and side
Rejoicing that he has arisen

Having heard
Having yearned
Lessons learning 'bout the cross

Having heard
Having yearned
Lessons learned about the cross
