The City Poem by Trish Beckwith

The City

Rating: 3.5

I drove out of the darkness of the desert and gazed upon the lights of the city. They sparkled, glittered and cast a glow that gave the illusion of joy, kindness, peace and love. But my eyes were drawn upwards, where clouds hung like a cape on the shoulders of darkness; foreboding, yet somehow truthful of what it covered and enveloped. The city; harsh, cold, uninviting, lurking like a predator on the unsuspecting.
