The Church Poem by Rayline Nathan

The Church

Rating: 2.5

The temple of the living God
A shelter for the lost
For the broken hearted
Protection against the evil world.
Protection?
I think not.

It is a place of safety
A home for the homeless
A lighthouse for those trapped in the dark
Safety, lighthouse, a home?
I think not.

If the church is a shelter, it means I’m left in the rain; lost and alone.
If the church is the one that protects, than why am I left bruised, deeply scarred and betrayed?
If the church is the place where people that are lost run to from a world that hurt them,
Than I pray to God to help me. I pray that He should find me a refuge.
For where am I to run to?
For it is the church which is that world that hurt.

Where am I to go? I’m lost.
I’m left disgusted by “the church.”
This is not what Jesus meant when he died for the church on the cross.
So tell me what went wrong with “the church”?

If the church is a shelter, it means I’m left in the rain; lost and alone. If the church is the one that protects, than why am I left bruised, deeply scarred and betrayed? If I love the divine bells and its tolls, love God and your words of poem like a prayer
