The Caterpillar Poem by Jaime Montanez Salcedo

The Caterpillar

It hides like bud, midst the fluttering leaves,
Crawling shadows to quest gentle flavor
Of tender sprout whose it hastily thieves,
And so devours it with crazy ardor,
Yet, such sweet feast deigns not wonted favor.
So oft, outwits ugliness with color,
Perhaps deceiving with pretended candor.
Its tremulous eyes envy the flowers
And dreams of like the lofty glints of light,
So despite adumbration it embowers,
Keen will, metamorphoses it to the sight,
Thus magically does into day the night.
From ugliness, emerges as butterfly,
As do steadfast minds that ambition eye.
