The cat stopped licking himself and gazed
longingly upon the sparrow and her beautiful wings.
'One day that sparrow will be my own'
thought the cat
certain in his presumption.
The sparrow spread her beautiful wings
and rose up to meet the horizon,
never again to be gazed upon
by the cat or his eyes.
The cat continued licking himself once more,
certain in his presumption still.
Jeremiah, such a brilliant write... congrats for being chosen... a huge10+++
a poem that gives a message of presumption sometimes adds up to mean nothing? ...........well penned Jeremiah
The reality of life is often lost in wrong presumptions. Loved the poem - its tone and tenor.
Witty rendition set aside for sober reflection. Thanks for sharing Jeremiah.
Maybe not that one, but one. 'Presumption', a good alternative for 'Instinct'. And a spadger a good one for a sparrow.
patrick, i like this poem—like its message and brevity. it reminds me of stephen crane's poetry (the guy who wrote red badge of courage) . like his, several of the poems you posted have punch or zing. i'd welcome new postings by you, reading more of your stuff. -glen kappy

The lick of lost opportunity is painted on the face of that cat. Well done my friend!
