The Buddha Head Poem by Prabhakar Subramaniam

The Buddha Head

The fall hasn't erased
The smile of the buddha head
The dark face
Doesn't show
The hairline crack
That runs across it
One suddenly feels contrite
For having dropped him mindlessly
Apologises everytime one looks at him
Is this how inanimate objects
Turn animate, intimate
Companions in the loneliness
That time brings with time
Make us child-like again
Seeing life in the lifeless
Feeling for things
That are no more things.
