The Broken Hourglass Poem by Rogers Joseph Brown

The Broken Hourglass

To live breath
Consume conceive
To fly so high
or fall and die
To need so much
A gentle touch
erotic bliss
A lovers kiss
to see the world
in a grain of sand
and watch it slip
through a clinching hand
its times like these
the sand moves so fast
through the broken hourglass
when tears fall to the ground
like a mid summers rain
and your heart beat is a sound
that brings nothing but pain
all hope is but lost
and dark forebodings take hold
when the warmth turns to frost
and your left bitter and cold
and all of your dreams
in the light of each day
become nightmares it seems
forever lost in the gray
and each glimmer of brightness
has escaped from your eyes
and the darkness is all that remains
tears fall like stars from moonless skies
your hearts bound in unbreakable chains
and all you can do is watch time slowly pass
counting each grain in your life's hourglass.
