The Boat Poem by Karl Newton

The Boat

The boat
Big in neither
Size
Nor
Splendour
But the whole world
To me
And sweet
Childhood
Memories

She always seemed bigger
To the smaller me
Back then
Climbing carefully along the side
Only a foots width wide
Being careful not to fall overboard
On this journey
To my favourite spot
Upon the bow
I remember fondly how
In school holidays
I would sit on the bow for hours
Sunbathing and relaxing the days away
While Grandad sailed the boat
Up and down the canal
From pub to pub
Or in our case
Play area to play area
With picnic and drinks inside the boat
Provided by a nagging
Mum and Nan
Reminding us to keep hydrated
And Nan making sure
We all had our
Life jackets on
Life was a dream
Those long summer days
Aboard Miss Piggy
My boat
Of childhood
Memories
