The Black Poem by Ronald Brissette

The Black

Introduction to

“The Black”

Many times question passes our minds that seem simple enough when answered with a general acceptance of its meaning. What if something so simple cannot be answered with a general statement? The dictionary tells us BLACK is “Opposite of White” and a lot of comparisons to what mankind has place on it. I hope the question I raise here will stir you imagination to better understand the meaning of
“BLACK”

Where have I come from, out of the black?
Have I lived before, how many times?
Why so little white in the black sky?
What causes black and what is it made of?

What is the void, where did it come from?
Why can’t we see past the light?
So much black to so little light
Why can’t I see the answers?

Is earth misplaced in the black?
Black returns when the fire stick dies.
No place to hide but in the black
The black from which we all came
And black we shell return.

What good is sight if it cannot pieces the black?
Can the soul of man see into the black?
The soul has its own sight but not of light.
Are we just a dream in the mind of the black?

Is the black a God not yet reviled to us?
Is that what waits me when the earth no longer shines?
Can I go on and where is it I am going if not into the black?
I am tired; dreams start to form from the depths of black.

Good night.
