The Alivebeat Dad Poem by Chad Shumate

The Alivebeat Dad

I am an alive beat dad,
Which means that I am willing to pay child support until you are a high school grad.

To me it's nothing to change diapers and give you a bath,
Help you with your homework, reading and math.

I will be there for you and give you what you need,
I am not a stranger, you are my seed.

What I have for you is unconditional love,
Your life, I will never be out of.

I am an alive beat dad,
And it is just so sad,
That you couldn't even live in my pad,
Because the courts said too bad.

Me and your mother didn't workout,
But I am fit to take care of you without a doubt.

It is sad that you and I couldn't live in the same house,
But I just couldn't be your mother's spouse.

Little do you know that you are a pawn in your mother's game,
If I don't play you don't visit and that's a shame.

I have court ordered visitation, but that is just words on a piece of paper,
I came to pick you up and she said no, and I couldn't make her.

I am an alive beat dad,
And it is just so sad,
That you couldn't even live in my pad,
Because the courts said too bad.

Through all of this I need you to know,
That you are the one that I am living for.

Without you, there is no me,
Living on, I just can't see.

Every day I prayed for your well-being,
Worrying and hoping that the higher power is overseeing.

For 18 years, you have been my responsibility,
I would like to say that I have done it, despite your mother's hostility.
