Thanks For Being There Poem by Sherri Vogel

Thanks For Being There

I listened closely all my life
To stories about love
About kindness and understanding
That God sent from up above.
People said that love meant giving
To show how much you care
A simple smile or a hug
To let someone know you're there.
And now I sit here watching
As he breaks her heart
He's telling her it's over
And she just seems to fall apart.
Tears are falling down her face
And he turns and walks away
And I want so much to help her
But I don't know what to say.
I guess I hardly know her
But she's feeling sad you see
So I'll go and sit beside her
And hope she will trust in me.
I tell her not to worry
It will not help to cry
And she just sits there and listens
And whispers that she'll try.
And soon she tells me everything
And I let her know I care
Then she reaches out and hugs me and says
'Thanks For Being There.'
