Thankful Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Thankful

Remaining thankful?
Some may regard this a challenge.
A test to pass.
As if the doing of it is a task.

What more will it take,
For people experiencing life to live.
To appreciate the air.
All of us are blessed to breathe.
And that done to do to take for granted.

Many and not a few,
Will do this automatically.
Then will argue to disagree.
That for them it takes,
Much more than breathing.
To keep them everyday alive surviving.

"You don't understand.
I have bills to pay.
Children to feed.
Impressions to make.
And exhausting it is,
To keep up with friends, family.
The Joneses next door.
And those who live in the neighborhood.
Done to do to keep a good credit score.
With no one to suspect,
How close I sometimes get...
To having everything I possess,
Gone.
Repossessed! "

I had not thought about that.
We do have our priorities.

"Yes we do.
And you?
Of all people should know that's true.
What more is there to live for? "

Maybe...
Praying to remain thankful.
With a doing this to realize,
God blessed you and all of us too...
To be grateful.

"Grateful?
To be aggrevated.
Agitated.
And left to accept,
More B.S. to expect? "

And...
Don't forget,
The looking for 'something'.
Anything sought to complain about.

"Trust me,
That I do without looking too far,
Beyond my doorstep.
And God?
I had never needed God,
To know where to find it."

I can't argue with you about that.
Have a HAPPY Thanksgiving.
And the rest of the holiday season.
Especially Christmas and Kwanzaa.

"Whatever! "
