Thank You Friend Poem by Aryn James

Thank You Friend

Ah, those endless afternoons playing dress-up in my garage,
Wearing our tank tops and tutu’s over our jeans
Walking around like we are the rulers and my neighborhood is our kingdom,
While not noticing that the neighbors our staring out there pathetic windows
Looking at us with as much curiosity as a cat
Yet we don’t care.

After our stroll around our kingdom of imagination,
We sit on my floor laughing at our own language that we know no one can understand,
That’s the wonder of it.
We roll around the floor thousands of times in endless circles,
And we laugh so much that our cheeks are to numb to even talk.

It’s just so relaxing that I know all our secrets we share on the bus are hidden,
Like we have an invisible safe, full of our thoughts and wonders,
Even our heartbreaks,
And we both know that when ever we are in trouble,
We will be there for each other,
I am your bulwark.

And you are my happy pill,
Even if I step onto the huge yellow bus that deposits us to this chamber of learning,
And I have face on that just illustrates the pains I’m gong through,
I know that by the time I get off that huge yellow bus
I will be smiling and laughing at our inside jokes,
There’s no way I can stay sad around you.

So thank you,
Thank you for being there for me,
And thank you for keeping me happy even in my most depressing times,
You are my best friend in this entire world and nothing can change that.
