Tanabata Poem by Ahmad Shiddiqi

Tanabata

Orihime
Weaving Princess
Hikoboshi
The Shepherd
Tenkou
The Sky King

Love interfered
With their duties
Thus incurring wrath
The couple was banished
To opposite shores
Of the Milky Way

The King’s affection
For his daughter
Allowed for a single
Sky-bound rendezvous
For heart-broken couple
Celestial event of ancient romantic legend

The heart’s true wishes
And desire on Tanzaku
Colored paper streamers
Hanging it from a bamboo tree
A sweet and romantic custom
In Hiratsuka, and Sendai

Is it a story from Japanese or from Balinese divine myths? Taken by the names, it sounds more like the former. But then again, you are from Indonesia. Kind of baffling, same like your intriguing historical portrait likewise.
