Surviving The Edge Poem by Shaquay Spencer

Surviving The Edge

I remember all the nights
I spent right at the edge
Not knowing whether
I was going to walk away
Or plain go over
Somehow in all my wizardry
By some miracle
Just when I thought
I had nothing else
God came in and filled the void
Gave me a whipser
That gave me a glimmer of hope
Gave me my strength to carry on
When I thought my mind was gone
You reminded me it was simply lost
And anything lost can be found
Endings help to forge new paths
I remember all those years
I remembered all those breakdowns
I remember all the almost moments
The ones where I almost walked away
But needless to say that I have your grace in my DNA
So instead I had to be a warrior
Instead I was chosen to be a warrior
Because I was at the edge
I didn't jump
I didn't go over
I survived the edge
Because you gave me
Something to back off the edge for
Something to be a survivor for
So that I could raise the next warrior
To teach him that the edge is never
Quite the end
