Suffering Poem by Dr. Harry Hamburger

Suffering

I know You can do everything
and nothing is restrained from You
yet I still suffer in silence
and no salvation comes to view

You who hide counsel without my knowledge
was told but did not understand
all your reasons hidden from me
why my suffering by Your Hand

I do not claim am righteous
but still must have some worth
wife is in need of me
and my children since their birth

I have heard of You in past
now my eyes have actually seen
will this suffering of my flesh
make my soul in the future clean

Therefore, I despise my present life
ask to dust I be returned
to lie finally with the worms
is the fate for which I yearn
