The Gilgul Poem by Dr. Harry Hamburger

The Gilgul

Once was an evil man

who began to feel love

heart opened like a flower

and received blessings from above

It became an extraordinary thing

and great story to tell

all about Yochanan the priest

who inhabited body from hell

All the mitzvoth he fulfilled

helped to elevate from lowly place

the body of Elazar ben Durdaya

so light shined from face

Know once and a while

great souls must be returned

hidden from the other side

so more merits can be earned

So when look at others

what do you really see

the husk of the serpent

or what inside might be?
