Stay Strong Poem by Elisia Diaz

Stay Strong

She stands on the shore
her dress billowing in the air
She can feel the ocean breeze
on her face and in her hair

She holds her arms up to the sky
and a laugh escapes her lips
She feels the sand between her toes
she takes the view in gulps not sips

The woman sees a tiny crab
scuttling to and fro
She has always loved the ocean land
the land that has never seen snow

The lady thinks about her life
and the things she should have done
on the things she should have finished
before the setting of the sun

For, the setting of the sun
usually means a new day
but for her the setting sun
means she will never again say

I love you to her daughter
To her husband or her son
She will retreat into silence
for her wave of life is done

She feels she's been too strong
for way to many years
that she's loved all she can love
and she's conquered all her fears

I stand on the beach
While my mother says good-bye
I reach out my tiny hand
But she has already let go to die
