Stardust Poem by Jeffrey McCambridge

Stardust

When all things are made void
Of substance, and the sun,
In its obstinacy refuses to set
We will see our souls embark down
The only dark road, two by two;
In familiar fashion, leaving behind
The unknown we call our home
For the unknown that we don’t.

Perhaps one lonely tear
Will be visible upon your eyes
But I doubt it. Mutual loss must
Be felt by two, and remain naked
Before all four eyes. I wave good-bye
Only half heartedly,
Smiling for a fleeting moment,
And uncover my head.
