St Kabeer's Couplets 40: Barest Hands Shalt Thou When Go

O Kabeer, recall thou life's sole aim:
Wakeful ye never when chant His name,
How will ye when asleep?
And in death when ye sleep,
Empty hands shalt thou go just as came.

Given here under is the original couplet in Hindi and its transliteration in English Roman.

कबीर सुता क्या करे, जागी न जपे मुरारी,
एक दिन तू भी सोवेगा लम्बे पाँव पसारी.
Kabeer sutā kyā kare, jāgī na jape murārī,
Ek din tū bhī sovegā, lambe pānva pasārī.

Asleep or awake, it is the same thing for a man who when awake can't chant the name of God. And while he waits complacent, before he finds an opportune day to do so, he will sleep a lasting sleep stretching his feet long. Beware, when will ye chant his name?
