Square Peg Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Square Peg

One large square peg,
Selected and picked.
And awkwardly disguised,
To hide its obvious defectiveness.
With attempts made to impress,
There is an effectiveness...
Unproven but in time will reveal,
A capability too real.
That will leave nonbelievers,
Supporting to endorse...
What this square peg can do.

Although and yet...
After having its rough edges,
Futilely excused to address.
The squareness of this peg,
Will never fit comfortably...
Into an oval space.
By those hoping to erase,
Its squareness.
With it done not to have anyone,
Come to notice such a misfit.
And out of place this square peg is!
