Spider Web Poem by Cookie Iwuoha

Spider Web

SPIDER WEB

How many times have you said
'oh it’s a dream'
after waking from sleep?
how many times
have you had many nightmares

In a single night?
do you know how it is
to die in dreams
wake up to reality only to dream -
and die again?
wake up.dream again
till you loose your reality
not knowing if you are alive or dead
to you what is fear?
can you describe its chills
silence and stillness?
can you interpret that emotion
premonitons, mental pictures
of evil events in which you are featured
you feel it around you, something
lurking somewhere in the shadows
do you know what it’s like
to know for sure - without luck
you may never see the next morning?
the clock ticking fast
to the beginning of your death
you feel unseen hands snuffing out your life
and you gasp for breath,
is this a dream again
am i truly on my death bed? ,
you ask,
confusing silence your only friend
jolted off sleep by nightmare
you wake up, tears on your face
its after midnight and you are crying again

your unconfessed sins torments
all wrongs you did, you regret
alas it dawns on you too late
judgement the only thing left
no chance for change
only your crimes and its punishments
