Do breathe and let me watch you close then miss
The freshness of your air, and suffocate
When you're not there, or hold my breath and wait—
I'm out of time—for your life-giving kiss;
I've got to make sure I get much of this:
Mayhap it would my breathlessness abate,
Or overdose and end my wretched state;
At least then I'd have died—how great! —of bliss.
Come close and blow your soul into my lungs; —
I took my breath but fine before you came! —
Oh, thinking of our intertwining tongues:
I doubt that I have ever breathed at all;
I saw your spell, smiled and did gladly fall:
And now my life will never be the same!
