Space deputy Poem by Jürgen Rooste

Space deputy

Rating: 2.5

I sit at my
dreary desk
not even god
talks to me any more
the lovely, distant planets'
radars are pointed elsewhere
oh - people
who'd want to talk to them

This is a clever poem of ennui, it's highly ironical. The poet who compressed his thoughts into such a fine form is not the same person as this dour speaker who complains but does nothing, like the tramps in WAITING FOR GODOT.. To define a spiritual impasse as succinctly as this poem does is already a breakthrough! The poem's truth may only be provisional; there are so many more inside of you. We have a great poet in my native state of Minnesota in ROBERT BLY who just turned 90. He told us in readings, A good poem nudges your life forward. That's how you use poetic energy. I feel this poem nudging me forward.
