Sorrow Poem by Nina Dringo

Sorrow

We can be happy for days
Until something comes along
And makes us sad for a week.

We can laugh for ten minutes
Until something comes along
And makes us cry for an hour.

Drifting in a joyful ocean
There is always the sad
Undercurrent.

Smiling the day away
Under sunny skies
The black clouds are always hiding.

Loving for an eternity
Until the winds of betrayal
Blow in gusts of hate.

However happy we may be
There is always the overpowering force
Of sorrow.
