Sonnet: On Being Childless Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: On Being Childless

They seem to smile and laugh just like others,
And speak with involvement like everyone;
But deep within their hearts, something bothers;
They don’t enjoy like most, the rain and sun!

Sometimes, they pray with fervor most intense;
They don’t relish the tastiest of foods;
Their moods vary from joyful to ones tense;
At times, they find themselves lost in deep woods.

Their life’s bereft of something quite serious;
Their earthly journey seems directionless;
They seem to miss something very precious;
For many years, they still remain childless!

They had all things in life they desired;
Without a heir, they both have retired!
