Sonnet: On Being Empathic Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: On Being Empathic

The modern world has gone mechanical!
Most people do not find the time for deeds;
They tend to speak in ways artificial;
They do not stop to find out other’s needs.

Misfortune strikes a person in some ways;
By wearing other’s shoes, you know the hurt;
We cannot stay indifferent on all days;
You never know when life can woes more spurt.

A humanist will empathize with next;
Your neighbors need some consolation free;
Some happenings can make the mind, heart vexed;
A timely help, kind words aid one surely.

You may not empathize always in life;
You can develop the virtue amidst strife.
