Sonnet I Poem by Gabe Florsheim

Sonnet I

Rating: 5.0

Still we appeal to the eye not the heart
And not to what is honest to the soul.
We forget those friends who spend years apart
And the friendships for which the bell doth toll
A veteran of war told a soldier
“The worst thing to lose is your closest men”
You came to me when I was the latter
And told me you’d be there until the end
But lights will dim and suns won’t seize to set
Our lost connection; a sweet surrender-
The memory I could never forget
But I will wait for when you remember
And to this day you’ll stay undecided
And to this day our lives stay divided
