Song Of Hannah, The Poem by Brother Jonathan Gardner

Song Of Hannah, The

Praying night and day, from her being, her core,
Poor, poor Hannah cried out.
Praying out loud, until hoarse, until she could verbalise no more,
Persistently, she continued.

Eli, the priest thought she was inebriated,
Everyone thought she was a cursed person.
Expectently, she asked God for her deepest need to be satiated.
Everyday she prayed for a son.

Accepting that God had granted her request, her
Adulation and praises was heard by all.
A baby son was born! Hallelujah! Praise God!
And she called him Samuel.

Conquerors and enemies, she sings, God deals with them all,
Cheered up are the poor and those of lowly humility,
Checked is the power of the wicked. They fall.
Carried to safety are the saints, kept safe from calamity.

Elohim, Hannah gives her God praise.
Each person she encounters she tells her tale.
Everyday, her voice is now raised
Eludicating the promises of the God of Israel.
