Someone To Hate Poem by Kenneth Maswabi

Someone To Hate

I have never seen hatred in a bird's eye
Just pure wisdom protruding from their eye sockets
They don't have time allocated for hate
Now, human beings with their massive brains
Have plenty of time to spare
Allocating a big chunk of their gray and white matter to hatred
There is no gain from hatred, just a bucket full of poisonous vile
To fill the ocean of your being
But why do we humans need someone to hate?
It boils down to fear and uncertainty
We have calibrated our body, mind and souls to detect potential sources of fear and uncertainty
And most of the time the finger points to our neighbors, family members and friends
Sometimes it is the color of skin, religious beliefs or tribal lines
Without question, we then embark on a journey of hate
Isolating our quarry, we build the lowest threshold of tolerance towards them
We find excuses to hunt them down
In order to pierce them with our words or actions
To shred their sense of being
Hating someone is the closest thing to cannibalism
Let's find a way to eradicate hatred in our lives
It's a form of self-mutilation
