Soldier Poem by Erica Smith

(I wrote this poem in 2002 about my best friend who committed suicide in Dec 2005)


I miss my soul mate
My girl who's always there to console me
When this loneliness turns to hate

We're looked down upon
And discriminated against
Hated and criticized
But they would understand
If they lived one day in our lives

So many dark things
So many emotions inside
All these problems we carry
So much to hide

We are the soldiers of our day
We wont be held down
We crush it, kill it
Always standing our ground

Silent in our beds
We take a deep breath
And a good look around
Thats when all the hurt
start weighing us down

The tears come day after day
They are cause by all the chaos we are surrounded with
But since we have each other
I know we will find a way

We are soldiers
We came from nothing
We been through everything
We will be something
