So Much To Learn Of Nature Poem by Francis Duggan

So Much To Learn Of Nature

Out there in Nature's wild garden I hear the freshening breeze
In the coolness of the evening soughing it's way through the trees
To the old woods and free of building places the Seasons they come and they go
So much to learn of Nature and so much I never will know

Of the ways of our Earth Mother she keeps her secrets from me
When I see Nature's wild creatures only the creatures I see
About the way they live I know little their secrets from me they keep
Some creatures come out at nightfall and hidden from the lamp of day sleep.

Out there in the leafy Woodland far from the noisy Town Street
Songbirds are chirping and singing where the creek and river meet
The loudest sounds of Nature are natural even when thunder cracks in the sky
One can hear the rufous whistler whistling a bird who is often song shy.

Us Humans too are part of Nature even if our remains to ash burn
Of Mother Earth we become part and to her bosom we return
Nature will live on forever though her flowers quickly bloom and decay
A young child will pluck the wild daisy in a hundred years from today.

So much to learn of Nature though time for none of us does wait
The butterfly who flits in the sunshine to us has a similar fate
They too must return to Nature as the withered leaves of the Fall
For to lay in old Mother Earth's bosom as we must one day one and all.
