So It Goes Year After Year Poem by Raymond Farrell

So It Goes Year After Year

Fall is here again
Crisp mornings, bright colors
All too quickly leading to Winter
Which drags along
With cold short days
Until Spring surfaces
Momentarily
Then Summer briefly comes
With its reprieve of heat
To warm the bones
So it goes year after year
Life reminds me more and more
Of a bucket full of water
Which has a slow leak
Out the water oozes slowly
You fail at first to notice
But when at last
You take stock
You are somewhat wiser
But much older
And you notice
The bucket is nearly empty.
