Snake In The Sleeve Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Snake In The Sleeve

Snake in the sleeve

Bear in mind Toronto
-and eastern Scarborough
-north of Finch, to the south of Steeles
-Victoria Park's east, to west of Pharmacy

There you find Boulevard
-the name is Chester Le
-townhouses are many
-poor, slum; in all means

Residents are mainly
-Off-Rooted-Africans
-Caribbean, Somalian
-and many refugees
-Syrians, Lebanese,

They live a Harlem-life
-with same games
-as Jane-Finch or Dixie-Kipling
-poverty…poverty…poverty

I go there, study
-and questions race in head
- "Who and what will they be? "

Some, of course
-thanks to need
-location, conditions…
-will end up in crime
-and whose fault?

I recall proverb:
- "Growing the snake in sleeve, "

And I think;
Think, think, think,

"How wise, short and concise
-with wisdom and advice, "
-proverb; and recall:
"Old is Gold…" (language!)
