Sleepy Poem by Amelia Patterson

Sleepy

Waiting anxiously for the time to sleep.
Not being for sure when the time will come.
Sitting lazily, counting the white sheep.
Waiting, waiting, feeling just so dang dumb.
Eyelids are drooping, falling with such ease.
Our droopy eyes are slow-melting toffee.
Our heads rest in our hands, trying to tease.
Our sockets are sagging; we need coffee.
Just thinking sleepy thoughts, not knowing jack!
Our heads are filled with dreams, ready to blow!
So loaded with homework, give us some slack!
When will we get to sleep? We just don't know.
So go to sleep at any given time!
What were we waiting for? Sitting like mimes!
