Simple Verse. No.14. Within The Cage Poem by Valsa George

Simple Verse. No.14. Within The Cage

Rating: 5.0

In the porch of my house
Is hung a cage, small
In it dwells two inhabitants
Ounces of flesh in feathered coats
Two Finches, one male and female
The vastness of the sky being denied
Do they live in regret?
Do they have dark remorse?
Do they miss the fair fields?
Do they long for the blue skies?
Do they envy the birds flying high?

I wonder…..!

This cage is their sky and their world
Here they co habit in love
Unruffled by confinement
Often seen preening their feathers
I see them doing it for each other
At times they seem to sit entranced
Their songs are not of plaintive notes
Across the bars of their cage
They see the sun, the moon and the stars
Remote from preying predators
They live in unperturbed solitude
Loneliness heightening their need for each other
When we turn to them
We hear their sweet murmurous tweets
And the fragrance of their love
Seeps into our wistful lives

With night fall, they cuddle together
Close, so close, she and he locked as one
In such indivisible togetherness!
There upon they sleep
Drowsing…. drowsing deep!

If these finches live a life imprisoned in their cage of solitude and love, while missing the whole world out there and all they have is each other to cuddle and love.....I can imagine how it could be for a human couple to be imprisoned and content with caged world they live in. It is painful even to think of it. Great write! ! I marvel the way you go so deep to express such feelings!

you weave love so magically Valsa. calling this poem just beautiful would be so inadequate.

Love is universal whether men or animals or even plants and trees. A couple of birds is great in the sense that the two are always loyal to each other. A beautiful description having nice feelings and sentiments. A well deserved 10.

Yet another poem so beautifully written. This one really makes me wonder. I think the love these birds have for each other, together with a reliable food source and lack of predators probably outweighs their desire for freedom The only way to know for sure, would be to release one into your sitting room, teach it to return to the cage for food, and then one day release it through the window and see if it returns. The next step would be to try releasing both. It would be quite something to have birds that returned to their cage voluntarily. It would almost be worth losing a few the the sky until you found some that did return. Handling them regularly/ feeding them by hand might increase the chance of them returning. It would be a shame if they fell prey to a hawk, but then they would have known freedom.

Searching of wisdom by two birds is so touchingly executed. I cite....This cage is their sky and their world / Here they co habit in love / Unruffled by confinement / Often seen preening their feathers. Though the cage is prison to them yet they treat it as heaven. You have brought happiness in place of sadness cutely. Brilliant work.

Beautiful poem. I just made me think. Don't we all live in our cages. some small some big. Perhaps the security of the cage keeps them content and free to love and live in harmony.

Beautiful poem Valsa. I am not sure whether your verses made their love so beautiful or really the caged bird enjoyed their life so beautifully. They lived far away from preying predators is definitely a blessing for them, for they can live without fear and it may also be true the loneliness, have brought them so together. I loved to read the tale of two love birds. Really enjoyed reading it. Each lines so well portrayed that I can imagine...

The intellectual properties of animals and birds do not suffice much to ponder over the bliss of unrestricted freedom in fact. Thousands of weaker birds and smaller animals are brutally finished by their predators every time. The jungles are not safe havens for them altogether. Man`s selfishness might be behind thousands of cages, zoos and artificial wild life sanctuaries. However, they indirectly protect them which would otherwise perish early for want of water, food and protection - African jungles witness testimony for this cruel truth. Every plus has a minus. These birds living in the better cages of the dimension you have permitted really live a better or at least healthier life. As for the higher phases of mutual care or feelings you have attributed to them, let me tell are not experienced by them as we humans manipulate them often. Exceptions of marvellous animals and birds are reported too though. A fine tribute to the birds which alas do not know about a caring poet Valsa George penning down great thoughts on behalf of them! Again a 10 for you madam.
