Silence Falls On A Broken Heart Poem by Stephanie Buchanan

Silence Falls On A Broken Heart

The passing glances, the muted screams, the iron curtain separating them from each other....from themselves.
Her back presses against the wall built between them, exhausted from running
Running to escape from it's confines, running towards a solution.

She sees her reflection in the glass cage he built around himself
Cracks filled with the pain of loss crawl along the walls
She pushes against his barricade, it starts to weaken
He shifts uncomfortably and closes his eyes, pretending not to notice.

Emptiness falls over her as her hands begin to bleed from pushing.
The scarlet reminder of what kept them apart. Pain
Flashes of sadness, bursts of disappointment, the sound of untold truths resonates behind a cornucopia of lies.
The portraits of faded faces stolen from their lives, unanswered questions.
She falls to her knees, a cloak of indifference is woven into their souls.

He lifts her to her feet
Their eyes meet, they're unrecognizable to each other.
He repairs the holes she's caused
He's shielded from the sun once again
The wounds from the broken glass heal, the scars remain

A moratorium on affection ensues, their limits discovered.
The time their heads lay close, their dreams allowed to grow, their doubts consoled, their lips pressed tight, hearts beating...........a distant memory.

She brought to him a restless mind, a storm of uncertainty and he quieted it for a while.
He brought to her a lack of self worth and she held his head in front of a mirror.
Their footprints never walked side by side, for one was always carrying the other.
